As Dick Ditore’s kiln formed glass reaches new levels of accomplishment, this new “Quantum” series shows emotion in his glass. The levels of heat needed to move the glass in these pieces are extreme. His color usage defines his emotions. And the use of extreme heat pushes the limits of the glass. “Working glass in a kiln pushes away barriers and allows a free flow of emotion in my pieces. The “Quantum” series exemplifies the leap I have taken using my emotions to push the glass.” After the glass has cooled, Dick spends hours working with the surfaces to bring them to their final message. Klaus Moje, his instructor at Pilchuck Glass School this past summer, helped Dick understand that a piece is never finished until you have worked it by hand.
